Military: 1973 – 1979 USAF aircrew navigator on a C-141, honorable discharge with the rank of Captain

Christian Experience: Grew up in a Christian home, parents actively involved in the church. Saved in the Fall of 1975 as a result of the Spirit’s conviction and the ministry of the First Baptist Church (SBC) of Wrightstown, NJ.  Called into the ministry in the summer of 1978.  Left the military to attend seminary and follow God’s calling.

Ministry experience: Pastored churches for 18 years (1981 – 1999) with my last pastorate (1993 – 1999) being at Eastern Heights Baptist Church in Statesboro, GA.  From 1999 – 2005 served as GBC Ministry Resource Consultant for Northeast Georgia.  From 2005 – 2010 served Full-Time as the GBC Healthy Kingdom Churches (HKC) Coordinator. Retired December 31, 2010 from Full-Time service and began January 1, 2011 as Part-Time HKC Coordinator for North Georgia.

Georgia Baptist Convention Ministry Work

            As MRC I:

• Assisted churches and associations in discovering/utilizing whatever resources they needed to accomplish what God was calling them to do. 
• Served churches as a consultant for Strategic Planning.
• Served three churches as an interim pastor.
• Was regularly called on for pulpit supply, revivals, and conference speaking. 
• Was a member of the Board of Directors for H.E.A.R.T. Ministries.
• Served as Task Force Director for Communications, GBC Disaster Relief

As HKC Coordinator I:

• Provide leadership, guidance, and oversight to the Healthy Kingdom Church Journey and First Steps to help churches enhance their ministry effectiveness.
• Develop and update HKC materials.
• Enlist, equip and mentor HKC facilitators.
• Promote the HKC Journey and First Steps among the churches and associations of the GBC.
• Have led three GBC church successfully through the HKC Journey.
• Am presently serving as HKC Facilitator for another of our churches engaged in the HKC Journey.

Please join us on Sunday, August 28,2011 for our 77th Homecoming at Waleska First Baptist Church.  Our guest speaker will be Rev. Allen Hill formerly of the Georgia Baptist Convention.  We will have one service at 11:00 a.m. and lunch to follow.

Beginning Wednesday, September 14, we will begin this important study here in our church. All of you not involved in children*s or youth ministry should plan to be here to take part.

What does God expect of ALL Christians? How does He expect the ministry through the church to be carried out? How does God expect YOU to serve Him daily? My teacher, the late Dr Finley Edge, use to say that Southern Baptists have done a credible job of enlisting the laity to serve in the organizational structure of the church, but we have not done so well at teaching them to be ministers in the marketplace and other areas of our society.

In our study we will consider the following topics:

1. The People of God-Who are they?
2. Motivation for Ministry
3. The  Ministry of the Laity
4. The Nature of God*s Ministry and Ours
5. The Pastor as Equipper
6. How Ministry Can Be Expressed
7. Gifted for Ministry
